seth pointed me to these two ad blockers for mozilla:

Adblock uses filters to define "don't show images from this server".
http://bannerblind.mozdev.org/
Bannerblind blocks images based on size primarily I think. Their page
says that it is not in a working state at the moment, but that it will be
soon.

factoid: automagic line break in vi
so i finally rtfm'd some mailing list about vi and found out how to set the editor so it would automatically break lines after a certain column. not so important for coding, but kind of nice for e-mail. check out http://cantonlinux.org/pipermail/tech/2002-September/002470.html.
